How to create a Search Engine Optimised article?

Before we dive into creating an SEO article we will have to consider two aspects that writing an article on paper is totally different from writing an article on a blog.

While writing an article on a paper, you consider the human(reader) but while writing the article on the blog, you will have to consider the human as well as the search engines(crawlers).

You don’t want that Your piece of work remains unseen, Isn’t it? Therefore SEO helps in bringing visitors for you.

You will have to create the content in such a way that it would be appealing to the Human as well as the search engines if you want to rank on the Search results…

And How do you do this?

There are many practices for creating an SEO article like using headings, subheadings, keywords, paragraphs. Using alt attributes, etc.

Let’s look into the factors involved in creating an SEO content:

 ♦ Use Keywords

 ♦  Headings and subheadings

 ♦ Paragraphs

♦ Sentences should contain less than 20 characters

♦ Use alt attributes in Images

♦ Add Meta title and Meta Description

♦ Link to your older Posts

♦ Consider the reader while reading

  1. Keywords

Keywords in a blog post can be compared to Salt in a Curry. No matter you add every spice in your curry if you don’t add salt to it. It won’t taste great and the same is also in the blog post. You may do everything right! But if you don’t add a Keyword in your article You Work will remain under the ground.

Well, there’s a lot and lot to talk about Keyword researching and placement. We will cover it in some other article. But for now let me take you with some basics:

There are 3 types of Keywords:

⇒ Short term keyword(1-3 words): Example- WordPress themes

⇒ Midterm keyword(4 words): Example- WordPress themes for Blog

⇒ Long-term Keyword(4+ words): Example- Free responsive WordPress themes for Blog

Out of three, Long-term keywords are the Hotcake. As people searching with long tail keywords are more likely to take action than Midterm and short-term Keywords.

Midterm and short-term keywords are also hard to rank because there is already billion/million$s business ranking for these terms. So no profit in competing with them.

So to find a perfect keyword, Go with the Google Keyword Planner tool which is absolutely free!

Just Drop your main keywords and get results on the basis of competition and select a suitable keyword for your article.

2. Use Headings and Sub-Headings:

Have you read a news anywhere on a paper or on your phone? What do you read first? The Heading, Isn’t it? Headings and subheadings are the most important signposts for the reader, and people tend to read headings more carefully, using them to work out what an article is about. This makes headings essential to help people figure out whether or not they want to read an article.

Headings provide a structure to your article which besides looking beautiful also catches the reader’s attention.

Headings are of 6 types, H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6 of which H1 and H2 are the most important. You can use other headers as well but it’s not that important.

H1 should be used once in an article to specify the heading of the topic and H2 should be used as a Sub-heading as many times as you want.

3. Use short Paragraphs

Keep your paragraphs Short. SEO practices say words in a single paragraph should n’t exceed by 250 or the readability score decreases. Also, remain stick to one topic one paragraph.

4. Sentences should contain less than 20 words

Lengthy sentences are hard to read. This causes a lack of attention and shows the signs of poor writing. You can write 20 words per sentence. But these type of sentences should not exceed 25% of the total blog posts.

5. Use alt attributes in Images

Somewhere above I said that while writing a blog you need to consider the search engines also. I must let you know that Google doesn’t see the web page as a Human eye see.

Google is not optimised to read images(Rich texts) hence, we need to provide texts for the images we use. This way Google reads the text and says that the Article contains rich media, hence performs better in Search Engines.

Alt attributes also give a information about the image if She/ He is n’t able to see the Image due to Poor connection, etc.

You just need to write what the image is about in the alt attribute section and the rest is done.

6. Add Meta Title and Meta Description

Meta Title and meta description gives the visitor an Idea about what the article is about.

Meta title is the title of the blog and should not be too long as it won’t appear in the search.

Meta title and meta description

Whereas meta description is the short description about the article. You will see that most of the times we click on a search result after reading the title. But sometimes when the title is a bit confusing or too long, meta description helps the visitors to know about the blog and then they decide whether or not they should read the blog.

7. Link to your older Posts

You must have heard about backlinks and internal linking. I am not talking about backlinks rather Internal links. Internal links are also important for SEO as Internal links pass a juice called link juice among the links which helps in ranking and is considered good.

So always link your posts with the older posts.

8. Consider readers while writing

Even Google says this… Remember eventually a Human is going to read your article right? If it’d have been a machine, It wouldn’t matter, you may write any way you’d like? But humans are made up of emotions, intelligence, and they will only read those article which appeals to them which makes them feel good. So consider the Human while writing.

It is so important that Developers have developed a Flesch reading test which ensures if whether your article is readable or not.

For example, the Flesch reading score for this article is 74.7 which is considered fairly easy to read.

So these are some practices you must consider while creating an SEO content. Whether your website loads fast or not is also an important factor in SEO. Your website should not take more than 3 seconds to load. If it is taking more time consider working on web optimizations or feel free to contact me here. I will be more than happy to help you.
